Guys Don’t Get It

Sometimes guys just don’t get it. Yesterday I asked my husband to take an old metal glider to a friend’s garage sale because I wanted to get rid of it. It was the only piece of furniture on our new back deck, but I decided to sell it and use the money to buy something different. Here’s how the conversation went. . .

Hubs:  “Now exactly why are we getting rid of the glider?”

Me: “Because it’s not the look I’m going for.”

Hubs:  “You mean it’s paid for.”

Me:  “No, I mean I want something more rustic out there.”

Hubs:  “But it’s covered in rust. How much more rustic can you get?”

Yes, this is the man I live with everyday — exhausting, but loveable. Needless to say, he took the glider to the sale.

The Giant Barn Swing Diet Plan

The Giant Barn Swing Diet Plan

WeightWeek2

So week number two has come and gone, and while not nearly as impressive as week one, these past seven days were still successful (and that was with a three-day trip to Branson, MO). Okay, so I had a little help with the Branson Trip. . . Just let me say, that Silver Dollar City giant barn swing ride is not my friend.

After riding that silly swing, I felt dizzy and nauseous all at the same time. After an hour with my head on a nearby table, I finally decided to make a shot for the hotel but only made it part way up the hill –you know right where all the funnel cakes, turkey legs and pork rinds are being made (normally one of my favorite spots), and thankfully the placement of a certain restroom facility was right on target.

Needless to say, the rest of my day was shot and Goldfish crackers were about all I ate, other than a yummy looking salad for dinner that met the same fate as my breakfast. Yikes, no wonder my metabolism is in slow-mo, I think I might be “maturing.”

Super Quick Chocolate-Almond Pancakes

Super Quick Chocolate-Almond Pancakes

chocalmondpancake

If you read the Belgium Waffle with the Works post from yesterday and think it sounds really yummy but super unrealistic for a family on the go or weekday morning fare, then you’re going to love this quick (I mean super quick) delicious alternative. I’m not putting this one in recipe form, because I’m not really “making” anything today. I’m simply taking the similar nutrient-rich ingredients from yesterday’s waffle recipe and making super quick chocolate-almond pancakes.

The secret ingredient here is your favorite boxed, bagged or even bottled pancake mix. Prepare the batter per instructions and right after you pour the batter into the skillet for cooking, plop a few chocolate chips and slivered almonds into the cooking cake. Continue cooking as you normally would and flip to cook the other side. You can top your pancake with strawberries and whipped cream for a similar taste as yesterday’s Belgium waffle, or you might try peanut butter, bananas or the classic butter and syrup.
