I am so excited to get back into the Operation Write Home challenges this week and this sketch was a good one. I didn’t think I would appreciate all the many layers incorporated in the sketch, but after the project was completed I was pleasantly surprised at how well I liked the finished product. I used My Mind’s Eye “The Sweetest Thing – Tangerine” paper pad and some kraft paper to create my card. The inking and stamping was done with Quick Quotes powder puff chalking ink in Java. Perhaps best of all, I finally got a chance to use my Stampabilities “Be Strong” clear stamp that has been taking up space on my craft table for so long. I just love it when I find the perfect spot to use a tool.

Thanksgiving Tablescape With Whimsy and Warmth

Since we’re not hosting the official family Thanksgiving this year, I “wisely” raised my hand to host my MOMS Club “Thankful Potluck” event this week. Really? What was I thinking? I’ll tell you what I was thinking. . . this was a good excuse to clean the house, decorate for Thanksgiving and set the table befitting this holiday like no other. Without opening my home for this fun little dinner party, I’m afraid I would have just let this holiday pass silently by while uneventfully sloppily sliding into the holly jolly of Christmas.

So I cooked a bone-in turkey breast, made the stuffing (Stove Top) and added a few appetizers and a dessert (I tried out a successful new recipe on the ladies that I’ll share later). With all the other carry-in dishes, we had so much food I almost unbuttoned my pants to play games on the living room floor. It was a fun night of laughs and food (some at the same time) and I think everyone felt welcome.

While it was a scurry to make the place presentable, I’m really glad I raised my hand. Thankfully, I took my tablescape cues from last year’s family gathering and was able to reuse many of the decorations and place setting ideas. I added a few new decorations around the house, but when you have a table set for friends and a beautiful fire blazing who really needs much else. That being said, here are a few photos from my Thanksgiving table. Click on images to enlarge.

From Blustery to Brrrrr

From Blustery to Brrrrr

Like so much of the Midwest, we went from beautiful (but windy) warm yesterday to the deep freeze this morning. The warning of the chill had been out for a week, but we were still running around like there was a hurricane a comin’ yesterday afternoon and evening watering the grass one last time, winterizing the hoses and faucets, mending mailboxes (which had been hit for the third time in two years), snipping the remaining flowers still blooming outside and bringing in the geraniums that still had lots of life to bear.

Groceries? Eh, who wants to take their four-year old grocery shopping when we could be outside enjoying the very last bits of a blustery fall day. . . which means that becomes my chore while my son is in preschool. Maybe I’ll just strap the frozen goods to the top of the Jeep and run all kinds of errands without fear of a thaw.
