Chapter 3: Still Winning by Losing with Weight Watchers

Chapter 3: Still Winning by Losing with Weight Watchers

Today is another Weight Watchers weigh-in night, which reminds me that I am completely behind on my updates. With all the crashing and redesigning going on here at Small Talk Mama, my February WW post got lost in the chaos.

So to bring everyone up to speed (other than my mother who gets a call from me the very minute my meeting is over;  I’m glad she’s proud), I’m still losing weight on the Smart Points program and I’m still not starving. I do, however, need to buy a new pair of jeans and a new bra — I’m sagging and gaping in all the wrong places (it’s the pants that are sagging, by the way).

I hit another milestone in February with ten pounds lost and I received another charm to mark my achievement! That put me safely under the 160 mark, but then I experienced an almost two-week hiatus of weight loss. I mean I saw exactly the same number on the scale for almost fourteen days. Yikes! For several days I was completely bummed! Although I had been told this was a normal event that most people experienced, I really started to believe that my forty-something physique was stuck in place and I would never see a slim me again. I had more than a few moments where I wanted to throw in the towel. . . but I just kept tracking my points and following the plan. A few days later, my body adjusted (or whatever it does) and I began shedding pounds again.  Yay!

I’m still winning with Weight Watchers and March is looking to be another good month for me, but before I get ahead of myself here are my updated stats:

STARTING WEIGHT:  168.2
JANUARY 2018 :  -8.6
FEBRUARY 2018: -5.8
CURRENT WEIGHT:  153.8

Putting the “Spring” in Small Talk with Design Changes

Putting the “Spring” in Small Talk with Design Changes

I just keep waiting for Spring to do its thing, but each time I think this quirky little season has arrived Winter fights back with some pretty harsh ammo. Such is life in the Midwest, I guess. I am so itching to get outdoors with my family and get my hands dirty in the yard, but at least I’m using the cooler days to get a few things done indoors.

As you may have noticed, I’ve been doing a bit of redesigning here at Small Talk Mama and I apologize if you tried to visit while things were a bit wonky. I still have a few more tweaks here and there, but I think it should be running smoothly (for the most part).

I changed the logo a bit to include the “Three-Acre Wood” and add a bit of whimsy. After all, the blog is called “Small Talk Mama;” just how serious do you think we’re going to get? I also plan to change the header with the seasons, so you just never know what you’ll see when you click on over here. Other than the few obvious design upgrades not much else is changing, so I hope you will continue to visit Small Talk Mama and let me know what you think. Audience participation is always welcomed here and (nice) comments really do make my day!

Mother of all Messes — My Craft Room

Mother of all Messes — My Craft Room

Hello Tuesday, I’m happy you’re here. If you tried to find your way to this little blog during the weekend, you probably received a really ugly error message. . . and so goes the world of technology when I happen to click one wrong button. *sigh* As you can see, Small Talk Mama is up and running once again and I’ll try (but can’t promise) not to maim my little site anytime soon.

So with my blog out of commission for a few days, I decided to concentrate on more of my Spring cleaning and attacked the mother of all messes — my craft room.  Let me tell you, this room is usually in some state of disarray (even if I’m not in the middle of a project) because I have google eyes, glue, ribbon, fabric, paper and pictures stuffed in every little drawer, shelf and storage bin in the place. This room is full!

In an effort to become more productive and organized, I decided to give the whole room a flip-flop and throw away and donate lots of stuff in the process. I pulled down my paper craft supplies from the top cabinets and replaced it with the odds-and-ends crafting supplies that were in the closet. I don’t access that stuff as often, so it makes sense to put it out of easy reach. The closet now holds most of my bulky paper crafting supplies with a bit of room at the bottom for both of my sewing machines. Yes, I have two sewing machines. . . Is that a problem?

As you can see by the very top photo, this process was almost painful. In the middle of all the mess I almost threw in the towel, but I managed to work my way through the worst of it.. I still have a ways to go, but at least I can now see the floor. Below is everything that exited the craft room this weekend (I sure thought there would be more). I threw away three bags of trash and donated an entire box of fun stuff to the Hillcrest thrift shop. That takes me up to a total of nine items in my 40 Bags in 40 Days challenge. Yay!
