My First Color Throwdown Challenge — Yellow, Green & Aqua

My First Color Throwdown Challenge — Yellow, Green & Aqua

color challenge

Here’s a super simple little card I whipped up this morning for the newest Color Throwdown Challenge. This is a first for me, but one of the awesome paper crafters I follow is a guest designer this month so I thought I would give this challenge a go.

This week’s inspiration colors are green, yellow and aqua and a quick survey of my 6×6 paper stash netted me just the right color combination with The Basics Stack by DCWV. This stack is full of geometric patterns in loads of basic colors, so I was able to piece together a very simple design that still has texture and interest. I did create the yellow tag using a paper from Studio Calico’s South of Market stack, because that piece of scrap paper was lying on my work table and just happened to be the right color. I just love it when I can use up some scraps!

I also added more visual interest by adding some green and white baker’s twine, a dash of Stickles and a little yellow hootie-do. It’s a simple but fun creation that’s sure to brighten anyone’s day.

FMS Final 243-001Good morning, Saturday! It’s a dark, rainy good sleep-in morning here in KC, but I woke before the rest of the house and finished up a couple of cute little items for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches card challenge using some new beach-themed paper called “Seaglass” by Craft Smith. I think this is the perfect card to brighten anyone’s day.

To create the cards, I used a blue wood-look paper for the base and cut premade sentiments. I love it when a paper pack includes a few really cute designs. I inked the inner cards with a light blue color, because I wanted it to have some definition but not too much. I also inked the base card, but with a darker blue color.

To loosely mimic a sunshine on the first card, I added a couple of pieces of washi tape and a big yellow button. I think it’s a fun pop of color without being to literal. The second card also has a button (from my colorful bottle o’ buttons) that creates a fun focal point.

A Crafty Week with My Sister

A Crafty Week with My Sister

My sister drove up from Oklahoma this week (dodging snow storms along the way) to spend a few fun days with me, and we have certainly shopped and cropped our way through the week. Okay, so maybe there was a little more shopping being done, but a girl’s gotta stock up on that good crafty stuff, you know.

Sometimes I need a visit from my crafty sibling to get my scrapbook bottom on track, so it’s always nice to get a visit from my sis from time-to-time. Other than spending hours in craft stores and scrapbook shops, here is what we’ve been up to (and what kind of mess I’ve made).

My sister finished lots of projects, including some Bo Bunny cards, several layouts and a mini album.

I on the other hand, made a huge mess and worked my way through day seven of 2015’s December Daily album. I’m a slow scrapbooker. . .
