Washi, Pleats and Butterfly Feats

Washi, Pleats and Butterfly Feats

OWH249See, I told you I was in a card-making mood yesterday, but this creation to a bit more time than the shamrock I posted earlier. When I first saw the Operation Write Home (OWH) sketch challenge, I was a bit perplexed, but I quickly went to my newest washi tape clearance purchase for inspiration. I was so excited to use this butterfly tape only a few days after purchase (that rarely happens), which quickly led me to two stamps I had yet to use and an unopened 6×6 paper pack — The Sweetest Thing by My Mind’s Eye.

I stuck the washi tape onto plain white paper and trimmed it, then folded it back and forth to create pleats. Then I used my huge butterfly stamp to create the large image and added accents with my Spectrum Noir pens, dots of red Stickles and a few squirts of Glimmer Mist. After inking everything for that all-popular punch and sticking it all down, I made a zigzag stitch with my sewing machine for a bit more detail and dimension.

OWH-Sketch-248Whew, this latest Operation Write Home sketch challenge was a toughy. But after much thought and lots of digging through all sorts of stamps, stickers, papers and punches, I finally came up with a concept to follow the sketch. Since Easter is quickly closing in on us and the OWH deadline for these cards is at the end of the month, I decided to go with a card befitting this celebration (plus I had those really cute egg stamps that had never been used). While it’s not my most favorite card ever, I think it turned out kind of cute.

I am so excited to get back into the Operation Write Home challenges this week and this sketch was a good one. I didn’t think I would appreciate all the many layers incorporated in the sketch, but after the project was completed I was pleasantly surprised at how well I liked the finished product. I used My Mind’s Eye “The Sweetest Thing – Tangerine” paper pad and some kraft paper to create my card. The inking and stamping was done with Quick Quotes powder puff chalking ink in Java. Perhaps best of all, I finally got a chance to use my Stampabilities “Be Strong” clear stamp that has been taking up space on my craft table for so long. I just love it when I find the perfect spot to use a tool.
