Extra Oomph for the Color Throwdown

I planned to clean my house today, but my craft room beckoned to me and I finally gave into my creative compulsion. So instead of cleaning toilets and doing laundry, I decided to create a cute little card for the latest Color Throwdown Challenge. The basic combination of kraft, green and white led me to a super basic card, but I jazzed it up with a few extra touches. I created the flower out of a brown paper bag and added the button stitched in green to create a simple focal piece. I also added some bulky stitching with cross-stitch floss and inked every little edge. The combination of two simple polka dot papers was a fun little twist on the greens. Although the colors are minimal, I think all the techniques and textures give this basic card a little extra oomph.

Hello Spring from Some Bunny

Spring keeps trying to creep into our days here in the Midwest, and my latest Mojo Monday card reflects those feelings. From the cute little bunny and fresh colored paper, everything about this card screams “Hello Spring.”

While I wasn’t crazy about this week’s Mojo Monday sketch, I decided to play along because I had just created the bunny holding an umbrella stamp with my newest Stampendous set from Hobby Lobby. I love this cute little stamp set that lets me mix and match various animals, clothes and accessories. It’s super cute! Anyway, the bunny was the perfect size for this card and the rest just fell in place.

All the decorative paper is from The Family Ties 6×6 paper stack from Pebbles, which was 40 percent off at JoAnn’s this week. Score! I inked all the edges and added some Glimmer Mist to the background for some interest. With the addition of a heart brad and a touch of Stickles on the bunny nose and frog eyes, my card was complete.

Stretching the Sketch With New Home Card

I decided to stretch the Mojo Monday sketch this week and took a bit of creative license with this New Home card.

I started with my own watercolor creation on the card base and added other elements from here and there. Painting on paper usually causes a somewhat wavy effect, so I lined the inside of the card to give some stability to the overall piece.

I also added several elements like the button, twine ribbon and mounting tape for extra texture and interest. With a bit of ink around the edges, this creation was complete. . . now someone I know needs to move into a new home.
