Routines, Trains and “Naked Ladies”

Routines, Trains and “Naked Ladies”

Whew, the summer vacations are finally fini, and I’m home to stay for a while. After a week with my husband’s family in Hollister immediately followed by a week with my family in the Hollow, I’m actually happy to be home and ready to settle into a routine (at least for a few weeks). Preschool hasn’t started for my little guy, so we are spending some fair-weather days with MOMS Club® friends and wrapping up the summer around town. Today we spent the morning at Union Station watching the trains go by.

Of course, I did spend my first day back just catching up on e-mails and marking up the calendar. Thank goodness for the fridge — it holds the family happenings.  Unfortunately, my two-week vacay just happened to coincide with the “Naked Lady” show. I completely missed the inaugural blooming of the bulbs I dug up at my grandmother’s old homestead in Blue Jay Hollow. Here’s all that’s left. . .

Pitching a Tent in the Great Indoors

Pitching a Tent in the Great Indoors

indoortent

You might be a redneck, or just testing out new camping cots; but any rate, yes, that is a full-size tent in the middle of my living room floor.

My husband and I have been talking about camping with our four-year-old son for several months now and ventured upon an outdoor sale at the local sporting goods store that quickly resulted in a “test run” of our new sleeping arrangements. When my husband suggested we set up the tent to make sure the new cots fit, I thought he meant outside somewhere. Nope, here’s proof that we indeed camped in the great “indoors” last week. I have to say, the facilities were top notch — super clean, lots of toilet paper and hot and cold running water!

This Tortoise Lives with a Hare

This Tortoise Lives with a Hare

Weight5weeks

So most of you probably know the old story of The Tortoise and the Hare, where the tortoise wins a race by keeping his pace slow and steady while the hare is out having a good time, taking naps and visiting with friends. This means the tortoise probably packed his lunch of celery, water and flax seed for the road and never stopped to indulge on “brunch with the girls” or “mom’s night out.” Now I ask you, what seems like more fun? After all, didn’t the hare still finished the race even if he wasn’t first. I’m sure I would be okay with that.

Okay, so I realize that the brunches and treats are probably what signed me up for this “race” to begin with, but short of surgery and magic pills, I wish there was an easier or more exciting way to quickly lose lots of weight. I’ve often heard weight loss compared to the little lesson-toting work of fiction mentioned above, but it doesn’t make it any easier when you happen to be living with a hare. My husband has been dieting for just over a week and has lost 10 pounds. Seriously?? Men lipo-suck!
