Cool Colors and Texture for Sketch Challenge Card

Cool Colors and Texture for Sketch Challenge Card

Mojo Monday

mojo485I’m spending a lazy, gray Presidents’ Day at home with my son, the Wii and my craft room (not necessarily in that order). We had plans for the zoo, but the drizzle and cool breezes changed our minds on that outing. So instead of enjoying the unusually warm February weather outdoors, I decided to get a jump on this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge (yup, and it’s only Monday). This week’s sketch is a fun, multi-layered design that easily translates into a card with some great texture and colors.

The Sweetest Thing 6×6 paper pack from My Mind’s Eye was the inspiration for this card, and I used four different patterns from that pack. I simply love the colors in this collection! I added some twine and buttons to the design and inked all the edges for a fun card with loads of interest. With a simple stamped sentiment, this cute little thing can be used for many different occasions.

Mojo397I guess I’ve been in the patriotic mood lately with Memorial Day on the horizon and Independence Day not so far behind, so that’s right where my mind went when I saw the newest Mojo Monday sketch challenge.

I really like rustic papers when it comes to stars and stripes, but I actually have VERY little patriotic paper. *Gasp* A shocker, I know. In order to achieve my desired look, I roughed up, painted and/or inked everything I used to give this card a tattered look. With the addition of the raffia and the stitching, it kind of has that “down home” feel.

zMojo378I took some time away from the unpacking, the laundry and the Christmas decluttering this afternoon to whip up a quick card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. It called for a tall, skinny card, so I made a cute little birthday greeting measuring 5.5 x 3.5″ so that it still fit into an A2 envelope. I used My Mind’s Eye Hootenanny paper pad for all the elements except the “Happy Birthday” banner.  I inked all my edges (as usual), and popped up the circle and added one small piece of bling to the center. I think the stamp is actually an old sentiment stamp from Stampin’ Up that I’ve had for many years. I think the end result is so fun and fresh that I might have to go make another. . .
