Dash of Spring on a Gray Fall Day

Dash of Spring on a Gray Fall Day

freshly made sketch

I need to get my card-making mojo back because this simple sketch took four tries to produce something that cut the mustard. Sometimes that happens when I have fewer constraints. Somehow it’s harder to focus on one idea when the sky is the limit. Still, I managed to create a cute little spring inspired card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketch challenge, which helped ward off today’s gray sky blues.

I used Simple Stories’ Vintage Bliss 6×6 paper stack for this card and flipped the sketch on its side. I used two different scallop punches for the accent pieces, tied ribbon along the top and, of course, inked all the edges.

I know most people are probably focused on fall or Christmas cards right now, but since I rented a booth at a resale shop I try to keep it stocked well ahead of the next holiday. I price my cards at $2.00 each and usually sell a few each month. It’s a great way to stay creative, share a little cheer and get a monetary reward in return.

Sunflower and Sequins Shaker Card

Sunflower and Sequins Shaker Card

So I couldn’t stop with just two cards for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge, because the sketch was such a great jumping off spot for all kinds of fun ideas. For this interpretation, I flipped the card on its side and turned it into a sunflower shaker.

Heart-Shaped Cut Out Card — A Plan Comes Together

Heart-Shaped Cut Out Card — A Plan Comes Together

I’m back this week with another card creation, and this time I combined an original cut file with a Freshly Made Sketches challenge. I love it when a plan comes together.

As soon as I saw this week’s challenge sketch, I knew I wanted to create a heart-shaped cut out card and that’s when I got the idea to create a whole card base in Illustrator, convert it to a svg cut file and let my Cricut machine do the rest.

The base was made with pink card stock and the cut file below, and the other patterned papers are from the Pebbles “yours truly” collection. I hand cut a burlap heart and layered it with a premade heart embellishment and coordinating tag. With a little pink ink around the edges and a few pieces of mini bling, this card was finished. I didn’t add a sentiment because I didn’t want to limit the card to a certain holiday, but I can always stamp in a greeting at a later date.
