All in at Gallery Idol

All in at Gallery Idol

galleryidolOkay, y’all, I’m all in. Somewhere between my husband’s surgery, camping at the hospital and running back and forth to Oklahoma, I managed to create three entries for the 2014 Gallery Idol. The Open Audition, all about washi tape, is open through today and then the judges will pick 20 card designers to move on in the competition. After this first open round, the viewers will then pick the winners of each challenge. It’s a lot of fun;  and you really should register and vote to make sure your favorites move forward.

If you want to see some great ways to make washi tape work, you must visit the Gallery Idol Flickr site. There are so many inspirational cards and adorable ways to bend, cut and stick your washi that I’m sure you’ve never considered. Look for the Small Talk Mama cards and drop me a comment if you find me.

2014 National Scrapbooking Day Events

2014 National Scrapbooking Day Events

While I was going to write something witty about the upcoming National Scrapbooking Day this Saturday, May 3, I simply can’t think of a better segue than, “Finally, it’s here!” So there you have it.

If you’re looking for an online event in which to participate this year, here’s a line-up of several I found.  I will be participating in the Big Picture Classes online crop for my third straight year and highly recommend this one for fun and prize opportunities. Last year I also participated in the Cherry on Top event with mixed success. As for the rest of the opportunities, I don’t much about them and can’t vouch for the type of events they will be, but I at least plan to stop in and give them a look.

If you have any other events you would like to post, please leave a comment. Also, if you have  participated in any of these listed events, your tips and suggestions are certainly welcome. Happy Scrapbooking Day, everyone!

Simple Washi Tape Bunny Stripes

Simple Washi Tape Bunny Stripes

bunnystripesThis week’s Operation Write Home Throwdown Challenge is all about the background. They dared us to use our scraps to create a cute background for a simple image card, but I kind of bent the rules a bit. I’ve been wanting to try out some washi tape I’ve had lying around my craft room for some time now, so I used it instead of paper to create the backdrop for my cute little Easter card.

After the background was complete, I used a bunny stamp and StazOn ink to create a simple black contrast on the front of my card. I did have to color over the bunny image with a permanent black marker to get the coverage I desired, but it turned out pretty cute (even up close).
