Chapter 4: Snacking My Way Through Weight Watchers Road Trips

Chapter 4: Snacking My Way Through Weight Watchers Road Trips

Another month of Weight Watchers is in the books and with two road trips rounding out our family calendar, March was a bit tricky to navigate. Luckily, I had the support of family and lots of WW snacks to help me through the miles. I also discovered that one Peep (not one package, just one stand alone Peep) is only two SmartPoints. Oh yeah! Let me tell you, paired with a hot cup of coffee, that was absolutely the freshest, best tasting Peep I have ever eaten!!

Okay, so Peeps are not a sanctioned Weight Watchers snack choice, but that does bring me to some of my favorite WW friendly go-to treats (when I’m not eating Peeps). That’s the beauty of the Freestyle Program, if you have the points you can eat them however you want. I’m a grazer so I feel that a few low-point snacks are essential to my success. Please know that I also eat a lot of very healthy and tasty meals as a part of my weight loss program, but these snacks are helpful between meals and destinations.

Since I go to meetings at an established Weight Watchers storefront, I have access to a complete line of WW products. After each meeting I stock up on items before I head for home.  I understand that remote meeting locations also have snacks to purchase but not an extensive lineup. The items above are my favorites, but there are lots of other goodies from which to choose.

You may not be a snacker and might not need the benefit of prepackaged treats to keep you moving in the right direction; but as for me, I’ll keep snacking away at my goal. I’m twenty pounds down and plan to keep on losing.

Chapter 3: Still Winning by Losing with Weight Watchers

Chapter 3: Still Winning by Losing with Weight Watchers

Today is another Weight Watchers weigh-in night, which reminds me that I am completely behind on my updates. With all the crashing and redesigning going on here at Small Talk Mama, my February WW post got lost in the chaos.

So to bring everyone up to speed (other than my mother who gets a call from me the very minute my meeting is over;  I’m glad she’s proud), I’m still losing weight on the Smart Points program and I’m still not starving. I do, however, need to buy a new pair of jeans and a new bra — I’m sagging and gaping in all the wrong places (it’s the pants that are sagging, by the way).

I hit another milestone in February with ten pounds lost and I received another charm to mark my achievement! That put me safely under the 160 mark, but then I experienced an almost two-week hiatus of weight loss. I mean I saw exactly the same number on the scale for almost fourteen days. Yikes! For several days I was completely bummed! Although I had been told this was a normal event that most people experienced, I really started to believe that my forty-something physique was stuck in place and I would never see a slim me again. I had more than a few moments where I wanted to throw in the towel. . . but I just kept tracking my points and following the plan. A few days later, my body adjusted (or whatever it does) and I began shedding pounds again.  Yay!

I’m still winning with Weight Watchers and March is looking to be another good month for me, but before I get ahead of myself here are my updated stats:

JANUARY 2018 :  -8.6
FEBRUARY 2018: -5.8

Chapter 2: My First Month with Weight Watchers

Chapter 2: My First Month with Weight Watchers

January flew the coop and with it went my first four weeks as a Weight Watcher. The month seemed to pass quickly and I guess that’s a good thing when you are embarking on a lifestyle change.

Being on WW truly has made an impact on my life and I like to tell people that it’s turning me into a “foodie.” Gone are the days when I can fall back on my basic, I-can-do-this-in-my-sleep meals; I’ve traded them in food planning and prep, but with a pretty payoff. I am trying loads of new recipes, eating some awesome meals and I’m losing weight! From shrimp fried rice and grilled chicken to salmon and turkey chili, I’m eating it all (and my husband thinks he’s partaking quite nicely too).

So just how much am I losing? Here are the numbers: My first official weigh-in put me at 168.2 pounds. Okay, yes that embarrassing but I’m trying to be upfront with y’all. . . so there it is. Week one I lost 3.6 pounds and week two I lost two more pounds. That put me down a total of 5.6 pounds, which was enough to earn my first WW charm — the five-pound charm.

I stayed the course in week three with a loss of another 2.2 pounds, but in week four I only took off .8 pounds for a total of 8.6 pounds lost. I was a bit disappointed in that final January weigh-in but I gathered a lot of support at my weekly meeting, especially when I announced that I cinched up my belt one notch. Apparently plateaus are common and sometimes we might see what they like to call “beyond-the-scale” victories (i.e. smaller belt size). At any rate, according to my home scale I’m on the other side of my first plateau, so I’ll let you know how it goes at Tuesday’s meeting.

I also earned my second charm of my Weight Watchers journey at the four-week mark because I attended four of my first five meetings. I have perfect attendance at this point because, other than the great personal support, I really love to step on that scale and see the numbers go in reverse!
