A Blizzard from the Warm Side of the Windows

A Blizzard from the Warm Side of the Windows

Sometimes I hate it when the weather man is right; and unfortunately he, she, they nailed today’s blizzard conditions in the Midwest. The Three-Acre Wood is now covered in a blustery blanket of snow and yesterday’s warm 50s have now been reduced to the mid-20s. New York is actually warmer than Kansas City!

Other than early morning church, a “drop & shop” at the grocery store (which was insane) and family photos (of all things) we did manage to burrow down while the blizzard blew in for hours. It was pretty nice to watch the weather from the warm side of the windows, and even Dixie the cat enjoyed the view. Thankfully my husband stocked the bird feeders this week so our wild feathered friends were happy, but the hens spent most of the day inside.

Here are just a few photos from our room with a view. I hope you are weathering the storm or enjoying better temps too.

This cat loves to watch the birds and today she darted back and forth as if she was at Wimbledon.

The wild birds crowded around the freshly stocked feeder as the wind and snow pelted everything in its wake.

The hens weren’t too happy with today’s weather conditions and spent most of their free time indoors. Doesn’t the chicken coop look festive with a fresh blanket of snow?

The Three-Acre Wood by late afternoon was mostly covered in snow.

A Snowy December Saturday

A Snowy December Saturday

December Saturday

Our Christmas light looking was cut short last night due to the icy roads and we begged out of our friends annual Christmas party across town tonight due to snow, but all-in-all it was a beautiful day (especially since we hardly left the house). Between reading a new book, picking up the house a bit and snagging a nice long nap, I did manage to point my camera here and there. So as the day is winding down and my son is watching Merry Madagascar, I thought I would show you a few photos from our slow December Saturday (a bonus that rarely happens so close to Christmas).

Thankfully my husband loaded up the bird feeders this week before the snow started blowing. Birds of all types and sizes flocked to our deck throughout the day.

December Saturday

I ventured out into the snow in shorts and a sweatshirt (it was super cold) to capture a couple of shots of our festive Christmas decorations. The snow was really falling, and if you look in the background you will see that Frosty already fell.

Christmas Saturday

From the outside looking in, I love this view of our warm Christmas home.

Fresh Snow Flurries and Family Fun

Fresh Snow Flurries and Family Fun

I’m not sure one ever outgrows the excitement of Winter’s first snow. . . now some of us get over it much more quickly than others, but for children even the slightest flurry is cause to pounce about in the cold.

The first words out of my son’s grinning face as he stepped off the school bus were, “It’s snowing!” Yes indeed, today was our first real snow in KC and even at that it barely dusted the ground in select spots, but that was enough to make my little man happy. That boy played outside until his fingers were down right frigid.

He plowed snow with his Lego Advent calendar character, drew designs with a stick and traipsed around in the backyard until I forced him to go see Moana in 3D with me (his first 3D movie ever by the way). So let’s see, he got out of school two hours early, played in freshly fallen snow and saw a movie with his mama. . . life is really a struggle at our house right now. *grin*

Moana in 3D

I hope your Wednesday was as good as ours and you are making some special memories this holiday season. Take a little extra time to enjoy your family and appreciate the small everyday blessings of life, like freshly fallen snow flurries. . . or the wonders of 3D technology.
